The Grand Mesa 100 is a local grassroots trail race that will offer a 100 mile, a 50 mile, and a 37.5 mile option on a collection of looped trails connected by short out and back sections. The race will be held on July 23 and 24, 2011. The Grand Mesa is located in western Colorado near Grand Junction. The race will have three distances: 37.5 miles, 50 +miles, and 100 miles. All distances will start and finish at the Grand Mesa Lodge. The first eleven miles are a loop of Crag Crest Trail. The next eleven miles go to Flowing Park following a rough jeep road and a rough trail. At Flowing Park, the 50 milers will make a loop on the new Flowing Park Trail and Indian Point Trail back to Flowing Park. From there the 37.5 and 50 milers will take the Drop Off Trail to Point Camp Trail and then back to the finish. The 100 milers will also use this part of the course. The 100 milers will do the Flowing Park portion, but will not do the Drop Off section until later. Instead, they will go north to Carson Lake and take the Coal Creek Trail to Farmers Trail to Kannah Creek Trail down to Kannah Creek Road. From Kannah Creek Road, runners will go up Coal Creek Basin Trail to Switchback Trail back to the top of the Mesa. At the top, runners will go west on Lands End Road to Lands End. The course then follows Anderson Lakes Road to Crater View. From there, the runners will follow a snowmobile trail to Deep Creek Trail and down to Mesa Lakes. At Mesa Lakes, the trail goes up Aspen Cove Road to a snowmobile trail back to the top of the mesa. The snowmobile trail goes back to the Deep Creek Trail where the runners will now go south across the top of the mesa through the Reber Cow Camp and back to Carson Lake. From Carson Lake the runners go back to Flowing Park and down the Drop Off Trail and back to the finish at Grand Mesa Lodge.
